Birthdays are rapidly becoming a bit of a ‘no rules’ day in our house. Mr C’s birthday on Monday was no exception, and saw us eating customised cake for breakfast at about 9:45am. I’m a firm believer that breaking the rules is good for you every now and then, and good for the kids too. And there’s no better way to break the rules than with cake. Unless, of course, that cake is a customised cake 😉
Or cake was from Bakerdays, and I’ve got an exclusive discount for you so you can break the rules with cake for breakfast too!
Cake for breakfast is good for you…
…honest! Okay, well maybe it’s not actually good for you in a health sense. But it is good for the soul to break the rules every now and then.
We have a pretty set routine when it comes to the kids, and like most mama’s I’m always conscious of making sure the kids have 3 good meals a day. We usually start the day with a selection of toast, cereal and fruit. So when we go off piste on special occasions, like birthdays, and allow the kids cake for brekkie, it feels like a huge treat to them.
I’m about as far from being the treat police when it comes to the kids as you can get. We all have our fair share, But what I am quite strict about is when those treats happen. They certainly don’t often happen while we’re still in our PJ’s!
I believe that a proper treat should be something really special. Something that gets the kids excited, is a surprise, and happens often enough that they don’t feel hard done by, but infrequently enough that it doesn’t become expected.
That’s where customised cake comes in.
Customised cake is even better for you!
I mean, what’s better than having your name on a cake? Or your face? Or anything really?! I’ll tell you what’s better. Having said cake delivered straight through your letterbox, in a cool tin that you can keep, without having to face the postman in your PJ’s and own up to your cake eating habit.
This is where Bakerdays comes in. All their cakes are fully customisable, and they deliver them in boxes perfect for any letterbox. Our cake arrived in the coolest tin, which I wasn’t expecting. It was a lovely surprise; I do love a good cake tin (I think I’m getting old).
Bakerdays have you covered
Mr C’s cake was brilliant. In the name of full disclosure, it took me forever to choose a design I liked, because there were just so many to pick from. When I first logged on to the site, I think I was expecting a few designs that I could maybe add some text to.
What there is, however, is the hugest variety of designs for a multitude of different occasions, all of which can be customised in different ways.
Some have a photo option, and pretty much all of them have custom text areas. Being a football nut (eurgh) I went for something related to the sport, and added a personalisation from the kids.
Once I’d (finally) chosen a design and ordered it, I didn’t have to wait long for it to arrive. In fact, it arrived so quickly that I hadn’t anticipated having to hide it, so I ended having to wedge the box in my spices cupboard (because there’s no way he’d ever look in there!)
Let’s eat customised cake!
Given that I was going for full on treat, I decided to turn the personalised cake into the top tier of a tiered birthday cake. It was a bit of a last minute effort, but it didn’t last more than half an hour, so I don’t think it matters too much that my icing skills were a little on the rusty side.
I’m sure by now, having been wowed by my exceptional cake tiering skills, that you’re carving a bit of cake of your own (for breakfast?)
If you’re ready for a cake of your own, delivered through your letterbox without having to face the postman, then I have you covered mama!
