My blogging mojo has been a bit slack recently. I’ve been struggling with my creative form a bit, and trying to beat back a teeny tiny sense of inadequacy. There are a few things that have been bothering me about the site’s overall appearance for some time now, and I just hadn’t got around to dealing with those issues. It didn’t seem to matter how I tweaked the site, I still wasn’t happy with how it looked on my phone (and more importantly YOUR phone).

Believe In Your Self

After facing my confidence, self belief, and blog worth issues head on this week, I decided that I needed to make some radical changes to the site. Firstly because a change is as good a rest. There's nothing like a day of virtual furniture rearranging to make you fall in love with your (online) space again! And secondly because I've reminded myself that it's important that my blog looks and functions in the way that I want and need it to.

There’s nothing like a day of virtual furniture rearranging to make you fall in love with your (online) space again! And secondly because I’ve reminded myself that it’s important that my blog looks and functions in the way that I want and need it to.

If I’m honest, when I first took my site self-hosted I had no idea of the thousands of options there are for site building. I mean, the choices literally are endless. Anything you want your blog to do, there’s probably a plugin that can sort you out. I think I played it pretty safe during my migration; I chose a fairly basic theme and didn’t really tweak it all that much.

Over time I’ve heard about various plugins that I now use. It’s also great to see how other blogs I love look and function. Seeing different elements in their functioning state helps you to build a picture of what you want your online space to feel like.

Work In Progress

It’s taken the best part of 6 months, and I’m still not convinced I’ve totally cracked the design (thoughts on the slider of images at the top of the home page?) but I’m a lot closer than I was. As well as updating the feel of the blog itself, I’ve also set aside a time to re-think my blogging schedule. I’m happy with my posting schedule so that’ll be staying as it is, but I’ve realised that I haven’t set myself time in the week for much of the extra-curricular stuff that goes hand in hand with blogging.

As with pretty much all of us, bloggers or not, my time management skills are more often than not hijacked by social media. The very nature of what we do means that we are thinking about, looking at, engaged in, or planning social media. And it’s bloody hard not to get distracted by all of the amazing content there is right there in our hands!

I joined with the #BlogosphereChat on Sunday, and proceeded to spend at least an hour afterwards aimlessly wandering around Twitter, not achieving much and certainly not doing what id planned to do. It’s easily done, and it’s an area I intend to focus bloody hard on from now!

I love the new look of your blog and I think the logo suits it perfectly. Good luck trying to stay focused and spending less time on social media. I’m rubbish at it. Thank you for sharing with #StayclassyMama

That’s so true. I felt like I was sticking with my old one because it was what I knew rather than what was working well x

I keep debating buying a theme! The Pipdig ones are calling out to me! I’m currently using Customizer and its not exactly where I want it but much closer! Glad yours is coming together! #staycalssymama

I love that you’re working on loving yourself…but also looking to improve. 🙂
If we don’t keep looking for ways to improve (our blogs, ourselves, our lives, whatever!), then we won’t keep growing.

Best of luck in your reevaluating. I’m excited to see where things go from here. <3
