On Bank Holiday Monday we headed off to Sunny Southbank for a baby disco with kids DJ Monski Mouse. We definitely made the most of the journey there, and I even managed a little *almost* argument in Starbucks (standard)! Amelia had queued so patiently, and when she eventually got her moment to pipe up with her order she was ignored by the staff and the lady behind her in the queue ordered over her! Needless to say I made sure she got heard and got her damn Babyccino! Anyway…

The walk up Southbank towards the Underbelly Festival (where the disco was being held) was very cool. None of the kids have been to Southbank before, so naturally they were enthralled by all the different street performers (apart from one guy who Amelia deemed “boring”… sorry dude!)

We eventually made our way down the river and found the venue. We could see straight away that the place was going to be pretty cool. There were lots of different things to look at, and we quickly spotted the various bars for post-disco *ahem* refreshments 😉

When we arrived, I was a bit put out that we had to leave our buggies outside the actual venue. Luckily, we were all wearing backpacks so there was no awkward bag carrying or worries about valuables. Equally as lucky was that I had remembered the rain covers, because it started to drizzle a bit when we first arrived! In hindsight, leaving the buggies outside was sensible, I just wasn’t really expecting it.

Any feeling of being put out was quickly alleviated when we got inside, though! The dance floor was great, with a nice soft area for the younger ones like Wills. It was great that we were all in the same boat, on the lookout for our own and other’s kids, so I felt like the kids were totally safe, especially crawling William!

There was a brilliant mix of modern music and kids songs. One track played and Amelia was yelling “Mummy I heard this in Daddy’s car!” and by the next track she was laying on her front with all the other kids waiting for ‘Hop Little Bunny’ to ramp up!

We were encouraged to get as bouncy as the kids, and that meant that it got really bloody hot really bloody quickly in there! There were plenty of jugs of ice cold water and cups available, but Mr C ended up making a dash for the door when Wills quite conveniently tired himself out! We definitely needed that drink by the end!

All the kids were given a balloon and a sticker on their way out, which was a cool touch. More importantly, the kids were pretty knackered and we were all pretty hungry. Finding somewhere that wasn’t rammed was a bit of a chore on a busy bank holiday, but we eventually found solace in a Pizza Express just off the beaten track.

I thought the disco was great! It took the kids a few minutes to soften up and get involved, and I have to say that an hour was by far plenty of time. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it could have got away with being 45 minutes; by the end the kids (and the adults) just wanted to get out in the fresh air! But all in all, I loved the opportunity to do something different with the kids.

Check out my (rather sketchy) video with a snapshot of the disco! Just remember that I was way too busy dancing my heart out, chasing the kids around, and generally getting sweaty, to worry about camera angles (fail) and whatnot!!

*I was sent a family ticket for the disco in exchange for this review. As always, all opinions (and post-disco sweaty pits) are entirely my own!

I admit to being confused at this title, I thought you were misspelling Mickey Mouse. Looks like you had a fun time! #BloggerClubUK
