How I Have Lost 2.5 Stone with Slimming World| MummyMamaMum

I joined Slimming World in August 2015, weighing nearly 14.5 stone. It wasn’t the biggest I have ever been, but it was the lowest I have ever felt about my weight. After a really shitty year I had piled on weight, living on takeaways and junk food and barely fitting into any of my clothes. What did fit made me feel frumpy and fat, and I had zero self-confidence.

I have been overweight pretty much my whole life and tried every fad diet there is going, and for a long time I had the attitude that I was just naturally bigger and anyone who didn’t like that could do one! It was a all a bit of a front, and I remember wishing I could wear the latest trends without looking like a blimp, and feeling self-conscious around my slimmer mates.

I was so nervous to join Slimming World, and had all these images in my head of what the group would be like (think ITV’s Fat Friends!) but having heard good things I turned up to a Saturday morning session and haven’t looked back since! Everyone was amazingly welcoming and friendly, and the plan seemed to make perfect sense (apart from the ‘eat as much as you like’ bit – Really?!). By the time I fell pregnant I had lost nearly a stone-and-a-half and was starting to feel great.

Seriously, my poor son – my first thought when I saw the positive on my home pregnancy test was;

“Oh great… Just lost all this weight and now I’m gonna get bloody fat again…”

Turns out that Slimming World are approved by The Royal College of Midwives, so determined not to be a fatty for the rest of my life, I decided to stick with it throughout my whole pregnancy. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with Amelia, and I knew that following the Slimming World plan would help to keep this at bay (which it did!), and I knew that pregnancy this time around with a toddler in the house, I would need as much good sustenance for energy as I could get, so it made all the sense in the world.

If you look closely at the image collage at the top of this post, you will see a picture of me holding Amelia at just a few hours old, and a picture of me holding Wills at a few hours old. The difference between those two pictures astounds me – not only am I slimmer, but I look healthier, my skin is more vibrant, and I know that I felt a million times better in that pic with Wills than I did after I had Amelia. Obviously, I gained weight during both of my pregnancies, but I knew that (most) of what I was gaining with Wills was healthy baby weight, and that I would easily be able to lose whatever I needed to after he was born.

And lose I did!

This was the week after I had Wills! A bit of a skewed result given that I lost a grand total of 17lbs of baby weight after I popped him out, but I’ll take any old victory!

Just 6 short weeks after giving birth, I was back to what I had weighed before falling pregnant, and I have continued to lose since then, now reaching a loss of 2.5 stone. I’ve still got a little way to go, but I can honestly say I have never felt better about myself. I’ve gone from struggling to get into a dress size 16 to comfortably wearing a 12, I no longer shy away from the camera, and instead of dreading clothes shopping I now take great pleasure in scanning the rails.

The absolute best thing about Slimming World, hands down, is that every single meal I cook is more than suitable for the whole family. I’ve written a bit on the blog before about weaning William and how most of the Slimming World recipes that I use are even great for him if shoved in a blender!

Have you struggled with your weight? Or got a Slimming World success (or not-so) story? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
